Our bedroom is one of the most important rooms in our home. Although it can be hard, we must avoid keeping any stressors in this space. It should be a place to escape the noise - to refresh, relax, and specifically, to get a good night’s sleep. Struggling to make it that perfect space? Check out our simple tips below to make it your own personal oasis.

1. Use a neutral color scheme

Bold, bright colors and patterns are stimulating. Keep it simple and neutral. Think whites, creams, and grays.

2. Get a plush rug

A rug is the base of your entire room. Make it soft and plush so it feels like you are walking on air.

3. When it comes to bedding, layer!

The more layers, the comfier and cozier. There’s nothing like sinking in to a soft, fluffy bed after a long day of work. Consider an all-season duvet for extra comfort or a silk pillow case for hair and skin benefits. Remember to try to make your bed every morning to kick-start your day.

4. Try aromatherapy

Using scented candles, or even sprays can have a positive or negative impact on the brain. Lavender specifically helps slow heartbeat and relax muscles to help calm and reduce stress and increase slow-wave sleep. Keep this, or your other favorite scents around for a soothing effect.

5. Windows are important!

Don’t forget your windows. Not only do they effect the room’s lighting, but the look and feel of the space as a whole. Try floor to ceiling curtains to tie the room together, but stay away from blinds.

6. The magic comes from ambiance

Avoid bright and fluorescent lighting and instead, but instead, aim for lamps and dimmers. Exposure to light in the evening tends to delay the phase of our internal clock, making it difficult to fall asleep early, so keeping it minimal is key.

7. Add a touch of nature

Research has shown that the presence of plants helps reduce anxiety, so consider bringing the outdoors indoors with greenery or flowers.

8. Keep it cool!

In general, the suggested bedroom temperature for optimal sleep is pretty cool! Anywhere between should 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit is the desired range. Cool temperatures initiate rest.

9. Make it personal

Hanging photos of friends or family, places, quotes, or maybe even a vision board turns your bedroom into a personal space unique to you, which helps one to feel totally at ease.
